The exotic frontiers of Europe

Ierapetra is the southernmost city in Europe, located off the coast of Africa. Its impressive natural beauty makes it a great place to relax and enjoy the sea and the mountains. Ierapetra's beaches are beautiful, Livadakia is one of the best organized beaches in the area and Apovathra is great for water sports. Livadi and Peristera are the most secluded.

Gaidouronissi or Chryssi is the most prominent attraction in Ierapetra. A small island about an hour by boat from Ierapetra with crystal blue sea and white sand.

Where time stops

Spinalonga is an 8.5 hectare dry and arid rocky islet located at the mouth of the natural harbor of Elounda. The island serves as a natural "defense mechanism" for the port of Elounda. On the remains of an ancient acropolis, the Venetians erected a huge castle in 1579. Spinalonga is also known as the "island of lepers", because it was here from 1905 to 1957 that lepers from Crete and Greece were quarantined.
