The Chania region, one of the most impressive in Crete; stroll through the old center and discover the exotic beaches of Elafonissi and Balos, among others.

Chania
The spectacular Lefka Ori or Madares (The White Mountains) and its famous National Park dominate the Chania area, which occupies most of the Chania Prefecture on the western side of the island of Crete.
From the time of Venetian rule to the present, the city of Chania has retained all its attractiveness. A journey through the labyrinthine alleys of the old town, with its exquisite Venetian houses, fountains, small churches and beautifully preserved historical buildings, will allow you to learn about the city's history and be transported back in time.
The Topanas area, the Jewish quarter, the Turkish quarter, the Halepa sector with neoclassical palaces and gardens, the old port and the lighthouse, which serves as an emblem of the city, are among the main attractions of the city.
The Archaeological, Historical and Maritime Museums illustrate the stormy history and customs of the region. Frangokastello, a Venetian fortification overlooking the Libyan Sea, lies to the south of the city.
A culinary experience
Of course, a trip to Chania would be incomplete without trying some of the local cuisine.
Visit the traditional taverns and the Municipal Market of Chania, the meeting point for residents and visitors to the city, a beautiful market full of colors and flavors where you can taste local dishes.
Eggs with staka (traditional butter), kaltsounia (cheesecakes), lamb with herbs and honey, snails, seafood dishes, fish soups and, to pair with it, a glass of marouvas wine or a cold raki. Cheers!

Exotic beaches
Falasarna, a mile-long beach, is surrounded by mountains with golden sand and hints of pink. Thousands of shells, crystal clear waters and an amazing sunset view from the beach.
Elafonissi is one of the best beaches in Greece, with blue seas and beautiful pink sand, as well as a pristine area with dunes and a cedar forest that touches the sea.
Expect a series of small islands of remarkable beauty in the port of Kissamos, on the west side of Chania. The Gramvousa peninsula, with its stunning scenery, shallow turquoise seas, and a prominent Venetian fortress atop, is one of them. Balos is the Gramvoussa basin, a beautiful bay protected by white dunes and a green sea.
Discover the traditional communities of the region, such as Vamos and Miles, following the scenic routes that link the rural towns. Stroll through the beautiful fields and orchards of Agia's famous tangerines, as well as the village's eponymous lake.
