Ikaria
The island of Ikaria belongs to the islands of the North Aegean. It took its name from Icarus, son of Daedalus, who according to Greek mythology escaped from King Minos with the help of wings that Daedalus made with feathers and wax. However Icarus fascinated by the flight, he disobeyed his father who had warned him not to fly too high because the sun would melt the wax. Icarus flew so high that the wings melted and he has fallen into the sea, costing his life.

From village to village
The main port and capital of the island is Agios Kirikos where you can find all kinds of services. In Armenistis you can also see the remains of the ancient Temple of Artemis Tauropolos. Near the Armenistis is the Nash beach with very fine sand, one of the most beautiful on the island.
