Sifnos: A place full of tasty memories…
Sifnos is the hometown of famous poets such as Ioannis Gryparis, Kleanthis Triantafylou and Aristomenis Provelegios, as well as chefs such as Tselementes. Unique traditional villages, organized or hidden beaches, and 227 churches scattered around the island are waiting to be discovered.
Apollonia, the capital of Sifnos is built in the form of an amphitheater on three hills in the center of the island. The narrow streets and whitewashed houses of Chora form a beautiful example of traditional Cycladic architecture. During your afternoon walk through the alleys of Chora visit the Museum of Folklore in Heroes Square.
In each small tavern or restaurant, you can taste some of the exceptional dishes of Sifnos, prepared by chefs who know how to tempt the palate. When night falls, Apollonia is transformed and the best bars of the islands are here open to dance all night!
In Sifnos, you can see an urban phenomenon that is not found in another of the Cyclades islands since a pedestrian path starts from Artemonas and reaches Katavati, passing before Ano Petali, Apollonia, while a pedestrian paved path joins Agios Lukas, Exampela and Kato Petali.
Hiking is the ideal way to discover the beauties of Sifnos such as the «thymonies», the olive trees and the forests of cedars and oaks, the prehistoric acropolis and the ancient towers of Sifnos. In Sifnos there have been registered 55 towers of communication of the centuries VI – III A.C.
