Half of its land is covered by virgin pine forests. Its blue waves, golden shores and the typical architectural cities of Pelion give an exceptional natural impression. Skopelos is part of the Northern Sporades Islands group and has three main ports: Skopelos, Agnontas and Glossa.<\/p><p>The capital of the island is Hora (Chora), which is located on the north coast of the island. Its original name was Peparithos, after the son of the deity Dionysus and Ariadne, who was the first occupant of the island. Chora is built on a hill and surrounds a castle. The medieval castle, with its sweeping views of the Aegean Sea, stone cottages, flower-filled courtyards, cobbled lanes, and a handful of Byzantine churches, evokes a classic image of a Greek island.<\/p><p>Glossa, the second largest town on the island, is located 25 kilometers north of Chora. It stands out for its traditional style, as well as for the remains of medieval towers and structures discovered in the surroundings. Palio Klima is a charming village in Glossa that was severely damaged by the 1965 earthquake. Neo Klima or Elios, located 18 kilometers from Chora, below the Vathias forest at an elevation of 688 meters, is a new community founded in 1981. Skopelos but was left incomplete due to the pirate Barbarrossa's invasion in 1538. The Byzantine Monasteries of Evangelistria and Timiou Prodromou, located in picturesque locations. Evangelistria, a former monastery east of Chora, was refurbished in 1712 and is notable for its stronghold and stunning views of the Port and Chora.<\/p><p>According to the legend, 800 years ago, a dragon was about to demolish the island and kill its people. Saint Riginos, the island's patron saint, chased him. During the chase, a fracture appeared on the side of the mountain. The dragon died after falling into the abyss. This cliff, known as \"Drakonstosxisma\" is a canyon encircled by the sea, located under a church erected close to the cliff's brink. The steep cliffs, the pines \"hanging\" on the rocks, and the blue waters combine to produce sight of unparalleled
