Travel by car through some of the most beautiful areas of the Peloponnese and the island of Kythira (Kythera), which are still unknown and off the beaten path.
The adventure begins in Athens. Greece’s capital, a modern and lively city where classical culture blends with the rhythm of a city that never sleeps! The Acropolis, Syntagma Square, Plaka and Psiri neighborhoods, Lykavittos, and many other attractions await exploration.
The Argolis region, with its archaeological treasures such as Epidaurus and Mycenae, and Nafplion, the first capital of modern Greece and one of Greece’s most romantic destinations. Enjoy the stunning views from Acronafplia and the Palamidi fortress, and if you’re visiting in the summer, don’t miss out on visiting any of the Saronic islands.
Monemvasia Castle, the walled city, another romantic place in Greece, and one of the best-preserved Venetian castles, can be found in the southeastern Peloponnese. A stroll through its cobblestone streets transports you to another era!
The village of Neapoli, located south of Monemvasia, is where the ferry departs for the island of Kythira. It takes about two hours to get to this beautiful island with beautiful beaches and hidden coves like Langada, Sparagario, Chalkos, Komponada, and its traditional towns like Avlemonas, Agia Pelagia, Mitata, and Kapsali.
The journey continues to the Mani Peninsula, Greece’s most remote region. Kythira’s ship transports them to Gythion, from where they take the coastal road to Areopoli, Mani’s capital. Mani has charming villages with tower houses and stunning views of the sea. It is worthwhile to visit the Diros caves and Cape Tenaron at the southern end, where the views of the sea are spectacular.
Back in Athens, don’t miss a brief stop in the Byzantine city of Mistras, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a pleasant mountain path where you can see the remains of many Byzantine churches, the Palaiologos palace, monasteries, and other buildings.
