A 15-day trip with a rental car through the Peloponnese and Central Greece, a good combination of culture and relaxation. During the trip, you can see some of the most valuable treasures of antiquity, the diverse landscape of the peninsula and one of the least known islands in Greece.
DAY 1: ATHENS
Arrival in Athens and transfer to the hotel. Night in Athens.
DAY 2: ATHENS
Breakfast and departure to visit the city of Athens. Night in Athens.
DAY 3: NAFPLION
Breakfast and departure to start the journey through the Peloponnese. On the way to Nafplion, we will pass through the Corinth Canal that connects the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea and we will visit the archaeological site of Epidaurus and Ancient Corinth where Saint Paul lived for 18 months. We will spend the afternoon in the city of Nafplion where we will visit the Palamidi fortress and enjoy the views of the city and the castle of Bourtzi built in the sea near the port of Nafplion. Night in Nafplion.
DAY 4: MONEMVASIA
Breakfast and departure to the walled city of Monemvasia where we will walk through the castle and enjoy the views of the sea. Night in Monemvasia.
DAY 5,6,7,8: CITERA
Breakfast and departure by ferry from Neapoli to the island of Kythera.
4 nights in Kythera to enjoy the island.
DAY 9: MANI
Breakfast and departure to the Mani region and the beautiful town of Limeni. We will take the ferry from Kythera to Neapoli and from there we drive to Limeni.
DAY 10: MANI
In the South of Mani we are going to visit the caves of Diros. The tour consists of a ride in wooden boats, where the boatman propels the ship with a long stick. The tour takes us through the underground lake through narrow tunnels and caverns with stalactites and stalagmites. The caves of Diros were considered by the ancient Greeks, one of the entrances to the underworld where the dead were carried across the underground river by a boatman named Charon.
When we finish the visit of Diros we will continue towards the south and the towns of Vatheia and Gerolimenas, some of the most typical of the Mani region. Night in Limeni.
DAY 11: OLYMPIA
Breakfast and visit of Areopolis and the west of the region in the afternoon arrival in Olympia. Night at Olympia.
DAY 12: OLYMPIA – DELPHI
Breakfast and departure to visit the cradle of the Olympic Games, in the archaeological site you can see the Boulefterion, the Palestra, the Gymnasium, the baths, the stadium and the archaeological museum of the Olympic Games. In the afternoon departure to Delphi, on the way we will pass over the suspension bridge of the Rio Antirio of 2,252 meters in length, it is the longest bridge of its kind in the world. A few kilometers from the bridge we will make a brief stop to visit the old port of Lepanto and the statue of Miguel de Cervantes that reminds us of The Battle of Lepanto where the Ottoman Empire fought against the Holy League. Arrival in Delphi and accommodation.
DAY 13: DELPHI – METEORA
Breakfast and departure to visit the archaeological site of Delphi, the oracle of Delphi was a sacred place of consultation with the gods.
In Delphi we will visit the temple of the oracle, We will pass by where there were previously several small buildings called treasures, We will visit the theater, the Castalia fountain, the ancient stadium where the Panhellenic games were held, the temple of Apollo and the museum of Delphi.
In the afternoon departure to Kalambaka, arrival at the hotel and accommodation.
DAY 14: METEORA – ATHENS
Breakfast and departure to visit the Meteora monasteries. Meteora is one of the most special places in the world, Meteora means “rocks in the air”, it is a set of sandstone cliffs formed under the sea 30 million years ago. These fascinating formations sculpted throughout history were uncovered as the sea level dropped. Monasteries are built on these rocks. Currently, 6 of them are open to the public.
After the visit, departure to Athens, arrival, delivery of the car and accommodation at your hotel.
DAY 15: ATHENS
Breakfast and at the indicated time transfer to the Athens airport.
