Some of the most impressive, yet often overlooked, gems of Milos are its mines, modern and old. The main characteristic of Milos is its volcanic nature and great geological wealth, factors that have contributed to the development of extensive mining activity throughout the centuries.
With this private visit, we will visit the remains of the ancient and legendary Milos mines, such as the famous manganese mines in the northwest corner of Milos, and the Sulfur Mines, on the steep southeast side of Milos, which constitute open-air museums of the geological history of the island. Our experienced guide tracks the geological efforts of the Melians until they reach modern mining activity, with a visit to the largest active bentonite mine in Europe. The swimming stop of this tour is a unique experience as well since we will swim in the hot springs of Milos.
Participants will explore one of the most original parts of the Milos culture, with an experienced guide, visiting sites that are not easily accessible with a regular vehicle, such as the wildest western side of the island.
