Greece ends as of Thursday the obligation to wear a mask outdoors, and as of Monday, June 28, lifts the curfew, as a result of the improvement in the epidemiological situation, the advance of vaccination against the coronavirus, and in the midst of a heatwave that has begun to make wearing face protection extremely difficult.
The Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Nikos Jardaliás, explained today at a press conference that the mask will continue to be necessary in indoor spaces and outdoors in cases where there are crowds (for instance while entering an archaeological site).
Other measures announced are the increase in people per table in restaurants (from 6 to 10), the possibility of celebrating baptisms and weddings with up to 400 guests (so far the limit was 300) and the expansion of capacity on the beaches up to 120 people per every 1,000 square meters.
Despite the relaxation of the measures, epidemiologists recall that in Greece only 3 out of 10 people have received the complete vaccination while 44% of the population has been inoculated with at least one dose.
In the last month, Greece has experienced a decrease in daily cases, as well as a reduction in the number of people intubated and in deaths.
In the last 24 hours, 520 SARS-CoV-2 infections and 14 deaths were registered. Since the pandemic began in Greece, there have been 419,455 infections and 12,595 deaths from COVID-19.
